Don’t Get Caught Up in Fad Diets

Can you relate to that feeling of being tired of the jokes, and the odd looks' people give you? Some of these looks are real, many are in our heads, but we cannot help but find it embarrassing as it is a constant reminder you need to address your weight as soon as possible. We have read heaps of research and collated it here so you will find some of the best weight loss tips that exist for anybody living in these confusing times.

No fat and no snacks is not really the best approach… You may be tempted, when trying to lose weight, to cut fat out entirely. But it's important to remember that fat has a high satiety value in foods, so a little will go a long way. Case in point: baked potato chips may have no fat, but because of that, they don't trigger your satiety level as quickly as regular or even the "fat-free" Olestra chips do. So, you're tempted to eat the whole bag. Better, for example, to eat a small amount of high-quality, high-fat food - let's say, a small high-end dark chocolate bar - then to gorge on large quantities of low - or non-fat foods. We tend to find that following small indulgences you'll be more satisfied without having to say "no" to all treats. Which let’s face it, makes life a drag and is the perfect recipe for Captain Cranky to come out!

Losing weight starts with a plan… Figuring out what changes you need (and want to make) is the best starting point – so start by reviewing your food and lifestyle, then create an improvement plan and start sticking to it; this will help you stay on track. Once you know what you need to cut back on and what you need to eat more of, determine what sort of foods you are going to eat and stock up with only these in the house.

Get moving… This is not necessarily about jogging 30 km a day or going to gym for 20-hours a week, it is about recognising that the amount of movement you are doing today is not burning off the amount of food fuel you are putting in; so, own this and start moving more. Find out where you are going to work out and how often you can fit it in your schedule.

Making these two simple changes – what food you eat and how much you move - are an important key to your success!

Mix up your exercise… If you find yourself hitting a plateau in your weight loss or fitness goals, try mixing up your exercise routine a bit once in a while. We know the combination of cardio and resistance aid in fat loss dramatically - you may notice the scales are not saying the same thing, but you need to factor in muscle weight. Be sure to plan to work different muscles and areas of your body, as well as mix up the type of cardio you do. Mixing it up not only makes it more fun but you may find you are able to burn off more of the fat that your previous routine wasn't targeting.

Have a strategy that can be ongoing… Whatever weight-loss regimen you assemble, make sure it is one you can stick with. Behind every goal to lose weight there is a second, implicit goal: keeping the weight off. To do this, you need a routine that can be converted into a life-long process. It is best to avoid extreme programs that will be unsustainable in the long run; but it has been recognised that sometimes to get start intense rapid weight loss strategies help initially but there needs to be a phased in weight management strategy; otherwise we just continue on the cycle of hope and disappointment.

Some cute childhood fun stuff helps… For example, a great way to help you lose weight is to purchase a jump rope. Jumping rope might just sound like a children's game to some, but it's actually one of the most intense exercises you can do. Look at those fit boxers they jump rope to get in peak condition for a fight all the time.

Eat off a plate… A simple but great way to help you lose weight is to not eat snack foods right out of their container. We tend to find when you eat snacks right out of their container like a box of cookies, you'll be more likely to eat too many. Instead, put a serving or two on a plate, this helps with visual reminders of how much you can eat at the time.

In conclusion, if you find yourself struggling to accept what you see in the mirror then introduce these tips to start the journey to a more attractive looking and healthier you… Don’t hesitate and get started now!
