About

My interest in the benefits of more ‘traditional’ exercises like yoga, qi gong and tai chi begun after I was forced to take time out from my developing swimming career. After recovering from illness and injury I experienced a real lack of motivation to get out and exercise, but at the same time felt physically “fat and ugly” – with encouragement from a friend I started to do yoga and tai chi.

After registering as a psychotherapist and moving into private practice I begun to identify the benefits of movement therapy and other such practices in assisting my patients to bring about change in their lives. It was this insight that drove me to undertake study in the teaching of sahaja yoga and qi gong as healing methodologies in the practice of clinical counselling.

I now enjoy any opportunity I have to teach mindfulness practices, gentle exercise and stretch techniques to help people feel better in their bodies!

Then, somewhere along the way, often after years of striving, another question begins to appear. It is quieter, but far more important. “What is all this for?”

Are You Trapped in Toxic Productivity? When doing more stops meaning you are living well…
There is a particular kind of exhaustion that does not look like exhaustion from the outside. It wears good shoes. It answers emails quickly. It knows how to appear calm in meetings. It gets things done, meets deadlines, remembers names, carries responsibility, and has usually developed a very convincing answer to the question, “How are you?” Busy. Fine. Flat out. All good.

When Societies Get Frightened, They Police Desire: Ancient Greece, Renaissance Florence, and why LGBTQIA+ rights still matter
Every so often, history taps us on the shoulder and says, “You may want to look at this again.” Not because history repeats itself neatly. It rarely does. The past is not a photocopier. It is more like a family pattern: recognisable, recurring, shaped by different people and different circumstances, but carrying a familiar emotional logic.
