My interest in the benefits of more ‘traditional’ exercises like yoga, qi gong and tai chi begun after I was forced to take time out from my developing swimming career. After recovering from illness and injury I experienced a real lack of motivation to get out and exercise, but at the same time felt physically “fat and ugly” – with encouragement from a friend I started to do yoga and tai chi.
After registering as a psychotherapist and moving into private practice I begun to identify the benefits of movement therapy and other such practices in assisting my patients to bring about change in their lives. It was this insight that drove me to undertake study in the teaching of sahaja yoga and qi gong as healing methodologies in the practice of clinical counselling.
I now enjoy any opportunity I have to teach mindfulness practices, gentle exercise and stretch techniques to help people feel better in their bodies!
